Some people use
Chevelle and Malibu
interchangeably and that's technically not correct. The line is
CHEVELLE
, one of the models in that line is
MALIBU
. For model years 1964-1972 all Malibus are
Chevelles
, but not all
Chevelles
are Malibus.
The Malibu steering wheel was a new design for 1968. While the general 3-bar configuration was carried over from 1967, the entire design differed. The steering wheel was color coordinated with the interior, contained two horn buttons on the horizontal bars and a Malibu identification emblem at the top in the center.
The SS396 wheel is essentially the same as the Malibu wheel but incorporated an SS396 identification
emblem in place of the Malibu identification emblem. On SS396 models the steering wheel and dash
controls area was done in black regardless of the interior color.  The upper dash area along with the
glove box area remained color coordinated with the interior.  Those with white interiors had the complete
dash done in black along with black carpeting, whether Malibu or SS396. Also note bright trim dash strip
above the glove box door with SS396 script.
Condition:
Fair Used condition.  Outer wheel has 4 splits as seen in photographs. Patina shows use commiserate with age.
