*Up for sale here is a very rare and handsome pair of early 1900's pre prohibition era beer steins, which were specially made and used for the historic Metropole Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio. They both have the appealing porcelain advertising tops, and both are different with their colors. They have both turned a nice medium sun colored purple amethyst, from the sun. Both the glass steins would date to when, or slightly after the hotel first opened in 1912.
*The lavish hotel was designed by Joseph G. Steinkamp & Brother, the Neoclassical styled Hotel Metropole opened in 1912. It is located at Sixth and Walnut Streets in downtown Cincinnati.
*Both the lids show the lavish hotel insignia with the crown motif. Both read ~ "M / HOTEL METROPOLE / CINCINNATI, OHIO." The one is done in gold and black trim, and a reddish brown color. As the other example is all done in just the reddish brown shade. These steins are in near mint condition. The multi-colored one has seen some minor wear just up from the base. There is the slightest of a flat chip as well, which is non detracting. The other example has seen no wear. See pictures. The tops and the advertising ceramic lid insets are perfect. The pewter handles are perfect and tight on both the beer steins. They were specially used in the old dining room and bar of the old hotel before prohibition. They both are quite heavy, and measure 6 3/4 inches tall, and 4 inches across their polished bases. Both do display handsomely, as seen here. You will be very well pleased with these wonderful pieces of old Cincinnati, Ohio pre pro Metropole Hotel history. They would make the perfect beer bottle and whiskey back bar go with.
